McCulloch England Associates Architects began working with Potomac Hospital in 1979. Over the past three-plus decades, the firm has been involved on an ongoing basis with multiple master planning, new construction, renovation, and addition projects on behalf of the hospital.
The most recent commission is the G-3 Building. The new, four-story, 150-bed patient tower addition replaced the current medical/surgical bed facility, which was completed in 1972. The addition was designed to house all private rooms (both patient rooms and ICU), an education center, kitchen and dining area, pharmacy, business offices, and support areas. McCulloch England designed and provided mockups of typical patient rooms, with particular attention given to accommodating family and caregivers. A new wayfinding system, including new signage and motifs, was developed specifically for the G-3 Building. It was implemented in the existing hospital, and can be used in future expansions.
