Charlotte, NC
Date of Completion: Fall 2020
Construction Cost: $93M
Project Size: 260,000 SF

GOALS
Create a new facility to combine and house a growing Cancer Institute and Heart & Vascular services. Design a facility that shows the dedication of Novant Health to the Charlotte Community and the needs of the community for Heart and Cancer Care. Create an image for the future of Novant Health design and construction.

OPPORTUNITIES
The existing cancer center and heart center within NH Presbyterian Medical Center was decentralized and had several generations of renovation over the past 20 years. The site for the new institute is a large “uptown mixed use development” and required a new parking deck.

PLAN
A new 7-story Outpatient Facility was built on the corner immediately adjacent to Presbyterian Medical Center. The new facility maintained connectivity to the main hospital through the use of existing over-street bridges and a new connector.

The Novant Health Cancer Institute has been designed for tumor specific clinics including Breast, Head & Neck, GI, GU, High Risk, Gyn Onc, Hematology, Thoracic, Developmental Therapeutic, and Neuro. Radiation Oncology includes HDR and linear accelerators. Infusion includes 80 infusion bays and Phase I research.

Additional Non Clinical Shared space will include HVI/Cancer Rehab and Prevention, Central Lab, Retail Pharmacy, Café, Resource Room, Quiet Room.

The building marks a departure from the traditional brick architecture of NH PMC and ushers in a new design aesthetic for the future of Novant Health.
