Goals
Provide a comprehensive Cancer Center program for Nash UNC HealthCare to combine existing radiation oncology and medical oncology practices.

Opportunities
The existing linear accelerator vaults and radiation oncology patients were treated at Nash Day Hospital, medical oncology patients were treated at the adjacent Nash General Hospital. By combining both programs, patients have a dedicated center in their community with clinicians for diagnosis, treatment and personal resources.

Plan
A 7,000sf expansion provided the needed additional space to create the new center adjacent to the existing radiation oncology space. Renovation 10,000sf of existing space provided the total amount of space for a new comprehensive center.

A new entrance and large waiting room provide walk-up access to the new center. Medical and radiation oncology staff share a total of 11 new exam rooms with combined support space.

A total of 14 new infusion bays were surrounded by floor to ceiling glass, providing natural light, views, and access to a new healing garden. A dedicated compounding pharmacy for chemotherapy and nonhazardous drugs provided support the infusion patients.

Consult rooms were included for families to meet with social workers, educators and counselors and the center also included a wig room with consultation area for a local stylist.
