High Point, NC
Date of Completion: Summer 2020
Construction Cost: $30M
Project Size: 70,000 SF

GOALS
Expand and renovate the existing 3rd floor Surgery Department and ORs to modern day standards. Create a new Hybrid Operating Suite, and provide needed expansion of the Cardiology Department.

OPPORTUNITITES
There was no immediately available square footage on the 3rd floor of the Medical Center, however prior master planning by MEAA had identified adjacent roof area for vertical expansion above the existing Emergency Department. Both the ED and the Surgical Departments needed to be fully functional throughout the construction. This resulted in a multi-phased project over a 3 year period of time.

PLAN
In the Surgery Department, two vertical expansions provided the needed space to allow for a phased renovation of the entire department. The vertical expansion over the occupied Emergency Department, provided a new 20 bed Pre/Post Unit and a vertical expansion adjacent to the clean corridor provided space for 3 new ORs.

Once the additions were complete, the vacated space provided the opportunity to renovate the remainder of the floor including the remaining 6 ORs, 1 Hybrid OR, a new 13-bay PACU, 2 Endoscopy Rooms and 1 Bronchocscopy room. All of the support areas were also fully renovated including new locker rooms, breakroom, and inpatient holding suite.

In the Cardiology Department, 2 new EP Labs were provided along with additional Pre/Post Bays. Renovation of nearly all of the support space was also completed including a new reception and waiting area.
